Clinical Professor of Medicine, University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine. Practicing Allergist and Immunologist. Dr. Sussman received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario. He completed his residency training at Toronto Western and Mount Sinai Hospitals in Toronto, Ontario and went on to complete his fellowship in clinical immunology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Centre. A major focus of research during his early years of practice was natural rubber latex allergy. Dr. Sussman recognized and reported one of the first cases of latex allergy, and his collaborative research efforts ledto widespread decline in this new allergen.
In his more current research endeavors, Dr. Sussman has been one of the first
to evaluate new and novel treatments for those with chronic spontaneous urticaria, cold-induced urticaria, and cholinergic urticaria. His urticaria research has resulted in the discovery of new pathophysiological mechanisms of chronic idiopathic urticaria
and novel therapeutic approaches which have proven to be more effective than standard-of-care. He is presently Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine and is President of the Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Society of Ontario. Dr. Sussman is currently running private practice in Toronto. He tries to insure that all patients receive the best care possible.
